Ali is diagnosed with agenesis of the corpus callosum (a condition where the two hemispheres of the brain are disconnected) and Mowat-Wilson Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder caused by a chromosome mutation. This unique combination impacts how Ali interacts with the world. Through a combination of speech, sign language, gestures, and assistive technology, Ali and I were able to have an engaging conversation and form a new friendship.
