Activity 2: Change the Visibility of Objects

  • 0:00 - 0:02
These activities are designed to help you get
  • 0:02 - 0:05
started with CAD to teach you essential operations
  • 0:05 - 0:07
and techniques. And in this video,
  • 0:07 - 0:10
we're going to go over activity number 2,
  • 0:10 - 0:12
which is to change the visibility
  • 0:13 - 0:15
of objects within the CAD system.
  • 0:16 - 0:18
So, looking now at the instructions,
  • 0:18 - 0:19
    we want to
  • 0:20 - 0:22
    change what is displayed
  • 0:23 - 0:24
    with the 3D geometry,
  • 0:24 - 0:25
    and we're gonna try that.
  • 0:25 - 0:28
We're gonna start by looking in the feature list.
  • 0:29 - 0:32
And hovering over a sketch or a plane, and we're gonna click
  • 0:32 - 0:36
on the eye that appears right to the right side of the operation
  • 0:36 - 0:38
name and to hide it or to unhide it.
  • 0:39 - 0:41
So, let's go down that path first.
  • 0:41 - 0:42
    First of all,
  • 0:42 - 0:43
    here is the feature list
  • 0:43 - 0:45
    over in this area.
  • 0:45 - 0:48
And we can see as we're looking at this object
  • 0:48 - 0:53
that we only see the geometry right now in this object.
  • 0:53 - 0:56
But if we come over here for example to top plane
  • 0:56 - 0:57
    and show the top plane,
  • 0:58 - 1:01
we can now see the geometry and the top plane in there.
  • 1:01 - 1:03
Now, I could do that with all of these
  • 1:04 - 1:05
    with the center axis.
  • 1:05 - 1:06
    I could do it.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
I could even go into here into these things and
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    turn on these sketches.
  • 1:11 - 1:11
    OK.
  • 1:11 - 1:15
Sketches are used to create the 3D geometry
  • 1:15 - 1:18
as you're sort of going along with it.
  • 1:18 - 1:19
    And so,
  • 1:19 - 1:24
that's that. We can use the eyeball to hide
  • 1:24 - 1:25
    or to show
  • 1:26 - 1:26
    things.
  • 1:27 - 1:27
    OK,
  • 1:27 - 1:30
that's great. We'll go on to the next part of the instruction then.
  • 1:30 - 1:32
    The next part is to
  • 1:32 - 1:37
try some keyboard shortcuts to hide or show multiple objects
  • 1:37 - 1:38
    all at once.
  • 1:38 - 1:38
    So for example,
  • 1:38 - 1:39
    we press P
  • 1:40 - 1:42
to hide or show all the planes,
  • 1:42 - 1:44
shift and H to hide or show all the sketches,
  • 1:45 - 1:46
    and shift P to hide
  • 1:46 - 1:47
    all of the sketches,
  • 1:47 - 1:48
    planes,
  • 1:48 - 1:48
    and curves.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
So, let's go try those ones.
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    OK.
  • 1:52 - 1:53
    So, if I hit the
  • 1:53 - 1:54
    keyboard,
  • 1:54 - 1:54
    key,
  • 1:54 - 1:56
I can see all the planes coming on and off
  • 1:57 - 1:58
every time I hit the key.
  • 1:59 - 1:59
    We
  • 1:59 - 2:01
    can also do shift H,
  • 2:01 - 2:02
    which will get my sketches
  • 2:03 - 2:04
    on and off.
  • 2:05 - 2:08
And if I have my sketches on and my planes on,
  • 2:09 - 2:12
then you can see sometimes you wouldn't really want that to be the case.
  • 2:13 - 2:16
And so, you can do the shift P to get rid of everything
  • 2:16 - 2:18
    all at once.
  • 2:18 - 2:19
    OK.
  • 2:19 - 2:20
    That's it for
  • 2:20 - 2:21
    that activity.
  • 2:22 - 2:23
    It's all about visibility.
