In the early 1960s, black American writer James Baldwin visited a snow-covered village in the Swiss Alps, recounting and demonstrating to the accompaniment of blues chords how he was perceived by natives who had never mixed with blacks. Baldwin analyzes their reactions in a filmed philosophical tale that applies to any community that discovers the Other.
