Green Screen with iMovie iOS18.1

  • 0:01 - 0:03
    Hey, guys, Mr. Bowtie here.
  • 0:03 - 0:04
    Today, we're talking about creating
  • 0:04 - 0:08
a green screen video using iMovie.
  • 0:08 - 0:12
And I'm using iOS 18.1, but this
  • 0:12 - 0:14
does work with some older versions.
  • 0:14 - 0:16
All right, so first off, I'm in iMovie.
  • 0:17 - 0:18
I'm going to click at the bottom,
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    Start New Project.
  • 0:21 - 0:23
I'm going to select the Movie,
  • 0:24 - 0:27
and then I'm going to come over to Photos.
  • 0:28 - 0:30
I'm going to select my background first,
  • 0:30 - 0:31
and you can see my kids have been using
  • 0:31 - 0:33
this, but there is a Halloween
  • 0:33 - 0:34
    one 'cause it's Halloween.
  • 0:34 - 0:35
    And then at the bottom,
  • 0:35 - 0:37
I'm going to click the Create,
  • 0:37 - 0:38
Create Movie button at the bottom.
  • 0:39 - 0:40
    There it is.
  • 0:40 - 0:41
My little play, that line going,
  • 0:41 - 0:43
that white line's called the play head.
  • 0:43 - 0:43
I'm going to move it back
  • 0:43 - 0:45
    to the zero position.
  • 0:45 - 0:46
    There's my background,
  • 0:46 - 0:48
but now I'm going to add in my video.
  • 0:48 - 0:50
So I'm going to come up to the plus
  • 0:50 - 0:52
button at the top right-hand corner.
  • 0:53 - 0:55
And I'm now going to select my video,
  • 0:56 - 0:58
and if I just go to all my videos,
  • 0:58 - 0:59
you'll see I have some green screen.
  • 0:59 - 1:02
All right, I'm going to click on that top,
  • 1:02 - 1:04
video, and you'll notice that there
  • 1:04 - 1:06
are three little dots there on the right.
  • 1:06 - 1:08
If I click the three little dots,
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    click on Green/Blue Screen,
  • 1:11 - 1:14
it will automatically add in my video.
  • 1:14 - 1:15
It just happens to be the same
  • 1:15 - 1:16
    length, which is great.
  • 1:16 - 1:17
You can adjust the timing of it.
  • 1:18 - 1:19
    But don't touch the video.
  • 1:19 - 1:20
You see this kind of just swirling,
  • 1:20 - 1:24
and boom, it now, cuts out that video.
  • 1:24 - 1:26
And I can kind of come back and kind of see
  • 1:26 - 1:28
    how it looks, and it
  • 1:28 - 1:29
    looks really, really good.
  • 1:29 - 1:31
    There you go.
  • 1:31 - 1:31
    All right?
  • 1:31 - 1:32
    But let's say...
  • 1:32 - 1:33
I'm going to delete that one
  • 1:33 - 1:34
    out for a second.
  • 1:34 - 1:36
And let's say I add in a video.
  • 1:36 - 1:38
'Cause that was with an actual green
  • 1:38 - 1:40
screen, but I've even done this with,
  • 1:41 - 1:42
    green butcher paper.
  • 1:42 - 1:43
    So this is, green butcher
  • 1:43 - 1:44
paper I'm standing in front of.
  • 1:44 - 1:46
    Again, click on the video,
  • 1:46 - 1:49
    three dots, Green/Blue Screen.
  • 1:49 - 1:51
It's going to add it in.
  • 1:51 - 1:52
    This is a shorter video.
  • 1:52 - 1:54
    And you'll notice that not
  • 1:54 - 1:57
    everything, was...
  • 1:57 - 1:59
    That green background
  • 1:59 - 2:00
    wasn't all the way there.
  • 2:00 - 2:01
    So watch this.
  • 2:01 - 2:03
I can click on the video, highlight it,
  • 2:04 - 2:05
then you're going to come up and the little
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    crop feature, that little square,
  • 2:07 - 2:08
I'm going to click on that.
  • 2:09 - 2:12
And now I can drag the corners,
  • 2:13 - 2:18
of my video clip, if I can grab those,
  • 2:18 - 2:21
there we go, and kind of bring those in.
  • 2:21 - 2:22
    Perfect, right?
  • 2:22 - 2:24
That might be just a little bit better.
  • 2:25 - 2:26
And of course, I'm going to kind of
  • 2:27 - 2:28
play it through, walk it through.
  • 2:28 - 2:29
    There's still a little bit
  • 2:29 - 2:31
    on that right-hand side, yep.
  • 2:31 - 2:33
So I can kind of click on it again, crop it,
  • 2:34 - 2:36
and just bring in just a touch more.
  • 2:36 - 2:38
So as I'm kind of going back and forth,
  • 2:39 - 2:39
    there we go.
  • 2:40 - 2:41
    We don't see that effect.
  • 2:42 - 2:42
    Perfect.
  • 2:43 - 2:45
When I'm done, in the top left-hand
  • 2:45 - 2:46
corner, you'll see the Done button.
  • 2:47 - 2:47
    Click it.
  • 2:48 - 2:49
From here, where it says My Movie, I can
  • 2:50 - 2:54
just, press and hold or hit Edit.
  • 2:54 - 2:56
    Press and hold,
  • 2:57 - 2:59
the My Movie or click on it.
  • 2:59 - 2:59
    There we go.
  • 2:59 - 3:02
And now I can change the name
  • 3:04 - 3:06
of that project, hit Done, and then
  • 3:06 - 3:10
at the bottom is our little Share button.
  • 3:10 - 3:10
    Or I can play it,
  • 3:10 - 3:12
    but there's my Share button.
  • 3:12 - 3:14
And then I can save and export as a video.
  • 3:15 - 3:16
And when you're done, you're done.
