June 28 - A Light After Papua’s Storm
-
0:06 - 0:08In March 2019,
-
0:08 - 0:10a devastating flash flood and mudslide
-
0:10 - 0:13struck Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia,
-
0:13 - 0:17engulfing the campus
of Papua Adventist Theological College. -
0:18 - 0:21This catastrophe claimed dozens of lives,
-
0:22 - 0:24displaced thousands of people,
-
0:24 - 0:28and forced the school to relocate
in a temporary facility -
0:28 - 0:32while it rebuilt its infrastructure
and academic programs. -
0:33 - 0:34Despite this situation,
-
0:34 - 0:40God's grace and blessing have enabled
the school to continue operating. -
0:43 - 0:46Students at this campus
come from various places. -
0:46 - 0:49Some are from remote areas in Papua,
-
0:49 - 0:50in the mountains,
-
0:50 - 0:52others from coastal regions.
-
0:55 - 1:00Currently, the college has 22 students
with 18 faculty and staff. -
1:00 - 1:03Even the numbers are now decreasing
-
1:03 - 1:06due to catastrophes
that are causing people to relocate. -
1:08 - 1:13Although our campus is small,
our professors are exceptional, -
1:13 - 1:15teaching us in-depth about the Bible.
-
1:19 - 1:21I decided to study at STTP
-
1:21 - 1:24because it teaches us how to be
better pastors in the future. -
1:27 - 1:31The college has a unique
value that attracts students. -
1:32 - 1:35Despite the small number of students
and lecturers on this campus, -
1:35 - 1:38a unity atmosphere exists
and is always present among us. -
1:39 - 1:44This college is committed to giving
its students the best education -
1:44 - 1:46and ministry experience.
-
1:48 - 1:52When we go out, we usually do
visitation and ministry with pastors, -
1:52 - 1:54church members, and even our lecturers
-
1:54 - 1:57on various islands like Napan Island,
-
1:57 - 1:58where there's no Adventist church yet.
-
2:01 - 2:03Balancing spiritual education
-
2:03 - 2:05and hands-on ministry is the best way
-
2:05 - 2:09to keep students
connected to God's mission. -
2:09 - 2:14Currently, all teaching takes place
in their limited classroom facilities, -
2:14 - 2:17which are inadequate for providing
an optimal learning experience. -
2:19 - 2:21We really need a lot more facilities
-
2:21 - 2:24such as computers, books,
-
2:24 - 2:27classrooms, dorms, chairs, whiteboards,
-
2:27 - 2:30which are essential
-
2:30 - 2:34to support both the students
and the lecturers on this campus. -
2:38 - 2:43Due to ongoing campus construction,
we can't study properly. -
2:43 - 2:46We are conducting classes
in unfinished classrooms. -
2:47 - 2:49And since our dormitories
are not yet ready, -
2:49 - 2:53we are temporarily staying
in the homes of church members. -
2:54 - 2:57This college has faced
numerous challenges, -
2:57 - 3:01including limited programs
and losing their campus home. -
3:01 - 3:03Your prayers are needed.
-
3:04 - 3:06As a world church,
we need your support in prayers. -
3:07 - 3:08Please pray for this place.
-
3:09 - 3:12Please pray for Papua
Adventist Theological School -
3:12 - 3:13that we may be able to grow
-
3:14 - 3:18facility-wise, number of students,
-
3:18 - 3:19the faculty members,
-
3:19 - 3:22and to be able to offer
much more programs. -
3:23 - 3:24As the school grows,
-
3:24 - 3:27its goal is to introduce
more people to Christ. -
3:29 - 3:32One of my personal desires
as a school leader -
3:32 - 3:35is to see many Papuans
brought home to heaven. -
3:36 - 3:41A portion of your 13th Sabbath offering
will help construct facilities -
3:41 - 3:43needed for this college.
-
3:43 - 3:47Thank you for supporting
the mission offering for this school.
