His Circumcision, Our Circumcision
In Colossians 2:11-12, we find a reference that is difficult to understand about the circumcision we experience and the circumcision of Yeshua. Have you ever wondered what this means? In today’s Global Broadcast, Ariel explains this passage in context and connects it to the unilateral covenant God made with Abraham in Genesis 15 and 17 to give him offspring, the land of Canaan, and through his seed to bring the blessings of faith and salvation to every family of the earth.
In Genesis 17 God’s covenant with Abraham is not just God-sided as in chapter 15, but expands to include a cooperative relationship with Abraham, which requires his obedience by circumcising his whole tribe and from then on, every 8 day old Hebrew male. The Son of God will also be the son of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob-Israel, and David.
But, this outward sign of circumcision was pointing to an even deeper prophetic meaning of a coming spiritual circumcision of the heart (Deuteronomy 10:16, 30:6; Jeremiah 4:4) so that through Abraham’s seed people from every tribe, tongue and nation could become children of Abraham by the internal work of the new birth and the Holy Spirit.
The New Testament writings reveal that it is Yeshua—both the One there with Abraham in Genesis and also the promised Seed—Who is able to bring these promises to pass. The circumcision of Yeshua is the removal of sin from the heart through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 2:29; 6:6-7).
The covenant of physical circumcision was made exclusively with the Jewish people, but God’s plan through Abraham was for all those who are willing to embrace circumcision of the heart through faith in Yeshua to be included. Together, both Jew and Gentile, we make up the family of God. Don’t miss this significant teaching. WATCH!
