"We feel safe because EarthRights School creates a safety zone for us. We talk very openly. We are ourselves. We are together."
Meet Dawn Bountasing, an EarthRights alumna from Laos. She later founded Green Community Volunteers, a local group that empowers indigenous communities along the Nam Ou River on environmental issues through arts and cultural exchanges.
At EarthRights, we conduct training programs in a safe space to provide essential technical skills to climate advocates and earth rights defenders like Dawn. Our aim is to empower training participants to effectively support local communities in defending their rights, livelihoods, and environment.
Last month, we organized an intensive three-week training for our EarthRights alumni. The training was designed to equip them with the practical skills and knowledge they need to become effective community trainers and facilitators. The techniques, tools, and skills they learned will be directly applied to improve the learning experience of the people in the communities they work with and to increase the impact of the activities they organize on the ground.
