For nature lovers in the region, Duke Forest has long been a refuge from the noisy and often hectic routine of modern life.
Visitors to Duke Forest, including Duke community members, can enjoy recreation, educational events and participate in volunteer efforts that help preserve its 7,100 acres.
Abby Niedermann, Nurse Anesthetist at Duke University Hospital, combines love of nature with volunteering as a community scientist for Duke Forest.
“It’s a really cool way to meet people and work toward a common goal [of] improving the health of the natural world around us,” Niedermann said.
