I've been consumed | Damoni Hall | TEDxAttica

  • 0:08 - 0:13
I have been consumed by sorrow and pain.
  • 0:14 - 0:19
    A series of negative memories,
    harassing my soul and brain,
  • 0:19 - 0:22
    reminding me of my past.
  • 0:22 - 0:26
Now, I'm a man of great faith,
  • 0:27 - 0:30
so I know that I will never finish last.
  • 0:30 - 0:35
    However, my current surroundings
only reminds me of the beautiful life
  • 0:35 - 0:37
    that I once had.
  • 0:38 - 0:40
I had taken a lot of things for granted,
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    because at that time
    I didn't appreciate it,
  • 0:43 - 0:45
    nor did I understand it.
  • 0:46 - 0:48
Despite all of my storms and trials,
  • 0:48 - 0:50
    I have traveled many miles,
  • 0:51 - 0:53
but the lessons along the way
  • 0:53 - 0:56
is what I have failed to examine.
  • 0:57 - 1:01
    Life is precious,
and is too short to waste,
  • 1:02 - 1:04
and I will surely tell you why:
  • 1:05 - 1:07
Because I went from a college campus
  • 1:08 - 1:11
    to a prison campus.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
  • 1:17 - 1:21
    My life has consisted
    of many ups and downs,
  • 1:21 - 1:23
    many smiles and frowns,
  • 1:24 - 1:28
    but it's unfortunate
because I am the ultimate reason
  • 1:28 - 1:31
as to why my life has been
    driven into the ground.
  • 1:32 - 1:35
    Following false idols
    and repeating the same cycle,
  • 1:35 - 1:40
I was unaware of my situation,
    which had eventually became vital.
  • 1:41 - 1:44
My lust for women, a diseased mind,
  • 1:44 - 1:47
my neglect for the truth, substance abuse
  • 1:47 - 1:51
    were all negative tools
that I had used to destroy my youth.
  • 1:53 - 1:56
And now, honesty has become my truth.
  • 1:57 - 2:01
    And now I'm sincerely devoted
to making a difference in this world
  • 2:02 - 2:04
through every word that I have spoken.
  • 2:06 - 2:07
    When I ...
  • 2:11 - 2:12
    I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
  • 2:14 - 2:17
    (Applause)
  • 2:23 - 2:27
When I sit back and I think
    about all of the lives
  • 2:27 - 2:32
and the people that have been affected
    because of my actions,
  • 2:33 - 2:35
    that guilt and that shame,
  • 2:36 - 2:38
it brings me deeper than the ocean.
  • 2:39 - 2:45
    God's endless love
and his mercy is my potion.
  • 2:46 - 2:49
That pure medicine that helps me to stand.
  • 2:50 - 2:55
No matter what I may endure
    or possibly suffer from,
  • 2:56 - 2:58
it's all a part of a greater plan.
  • 3:00 - 3:04
    Love, courage, and determination
  • 3:05 - 3:07
will lead me to the exoneration
  • 3:07 - 3:11
of all of my past failures and my regrets.
  • 3:12 - 3:16
And deep down in my soul,
I know that this is true.
  • 3:17 - 3:23
Dedicated to my new way of life,
    along with repentance and change,
  • 3:24 - 3:27
I have now been consumed by you.
  • 3:28 - 3:30
God bless you all. Thank you very much.
  • 3:31 - 3:34
    (Applause) (Cheers)
