(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
GLOVESTRAINS: But I am
actually very excited
-
to be here at Hessle
because I am gonna go
-
(TRAFFIC NOISE)
and have a walk to the bridge.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
Hey, everyone! GLovesTrains 'ere.
-
And welcome to "Exploring Yorkshire
and the Humber by Train"
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
day 25.
-
I am so used to getting up
at ridiculous o'clock now.
-
But honestly, like I was just
proper falling asleep.
-
It's so relaxing
on this train right now.
-
But anyways, I am off to
-
Selby, Brough, Ferriby,
-
Gilberdyke, Broomfleet,
-
Hessle and Hull.
-
Now it is a bit of a mishmash
-
with the order of the stations
that I'm visiting.
-
But it is because
-
there are a couple of dodgy stations
-
along the Selby line.
-
I am visiting one of them today.
-
And it just worked out for the best
-
in order to get that station in,
-
just...like I say,
-
go just all over the place.
-
So yeah, it is a bit random.
-
But I am very excited for this one.
-
I'm currently on the first train.
-
It is 185132.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
Right, I'm at Selby.
-
Is it past it's Selby date?
-
Uh, no, I don't think so.
-
But I am a little bit delayed.
-
We're about ten minutes delayed
arriving into here.
-
So I have only got
fifteen minutes at Selby now.
-
I was gonna have a walk to the park.
-
I don't think it's too far away
-
from the station.
I'm not too sure yet
-
whether I'm gonna
risk that or not though.
-
Or just stay in the station.
-
I'll decide at some point
within the next fifteen minutes.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(MACHINERY NOISE)
Selby is a Grade 2 listed station.
-
It's ran by Transpennine Express.
-
It's got three platforms.
-
There's a train in the way
so I can't see the third platform.
-
But there are three.
(LAUGHS)
-
It's also served by Hull Trains,
-
Northern and
London Northeastern Railway.
-
I can just see ahead of me
walking down this platform
-
some absolutely massive
plant pots.
-
I think that's what I'm gonna take away
-
from being at Selby.
-
There's also...
-
some work being done here.
What's it saying 'ere?
-
"Selby Station Access for All Scheme."
-
So...they're putting in some lifts
-
at the minute. I think
there's a café down there as well.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
G: Okay, I have made it to the park
-
with ease. I'm just gonna do
a little circle around it
-
and then go back to the station.
-
But yeah, I've got plenty of time.
-
I somehow just did my
filming in the station
-
within like two minutes.
(LAUGHS)
-
Surprise myself sometimes!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
That changeover turned out to be
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
a lot more chill than
-
I initially expected it to be.
-
But the next train's coming in now.
It's pretty 158...
-
795.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
It's a bit brough around 'ere,
-
but that's because I'm at Brough.
-
Do you remember back in day 10
-
when I ended up at Brough
and totally could have
-
done my filming here then?
But, oh well.
-
But yeah, I remember...
-
I had quite a long wait then as well.
-
I literally, because it was so cold,
-
(ANNOUNCEMENT IN BACKGROUND)
just spent the whole time in that shelter
-
over on platform 2!
-
(WIND NOISE)
I do have less of a wait here today though.
-
It's just over half an hour and
-
I've got nowhere to go to
outside of the station.
-
So I'ma just hang around
inside the station.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
Brough is managed by TPE.
-
You've also got Northern Trains,
of course,
-
LNER and Hull Trains calling here.
-
And it's got two platforms.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
It would be great to do
a trainspotting session here,
-
because there are a lot of trains
that pull into Brough.
-
And it's really nice to see
Hull Trains as well.
-
I really would love to one day
-
have a ride with Hull Trains.
-
Here within Brough station,
-
there is a ticket office.
There's a coffee kiosk
-
over on platform 2.
-
And there's a long
blue and yellow ramp.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
(TRAIN DOORS BEEP)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
I'm on the next train. It's pretty 158791.
-
And so far, I know
I've only been on three,
-
but the trains down here
have been ridiculously quiet.
-
Like there's hardly anybody
on this one again.
-
So I hope the trains stay like this
-
for the rest of the day.
-
I'm only on here for like five minutes.
-
Just down one stop to Ferriby.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN DOORS BEEP)
ANNOUNCEMENT: 'This is Ferriby.'
-
G: It's always nicer to hear the older
-
Northern announcements
on the trains.
-
I'm now at Ferriby.
-
And, like the trains being quiet,
-
this station is really quiet as well.
-
It looks...
I'm not sure if it's 'cause
-
there's no people here
apart from me.
-
But it actually looks really big
in this station.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
Ferriby's a Northern-only station
-
and it's got two platforms.
-
It's got a waiting shelter
on either platform.
-
There's a ticket machine
-
(WIND NOISE)
on this platform.
-
I'm guessing it's platform 1?
-
Cannot see any platform numbers.
-
But yeah, I think it's platform 1.
-
We got a post pickup Amazon
-
thing at the end of the platform as well.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
(TRAIN RUMBLES PAST)
-
Right, I have got
a bit of a longer wait here.
-
About forty, forty-five minutes.
Somat like that.
-
But I have got planned
to go somewhere here.
-
So I am gonna set off immediately
-
to make sure that I can make it
back in time for the next train.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
For some reason, I thought it was
gonna take me ages
-
to walk to where I've come to.
-
But it literally took a few minutes.
-
I mean, I could even see
the flowing water
-
from being at the top of the footbridge
within the station.
-
But I have come to have a look
at the Humber Estuary.
-
And this piece of flowing water
has been created
-
by the merging of the River Trent
-
with the River...
-
"oose," "owse," Ouse.
But anyways,
-
you can even see over there
the Humber Bridge.
-
Which hopefully later on today,
-
I will be getting a closer look at.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
G: Just got off,
it was the same train again,
-
158791.
-
(WIND NOISE)
And that has brought me to Gilberdyke.
-
Which is run by Northern Trains,
-
it's got two platforms
-
and Transpennine Express
also call here.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(MACHINERY NOISE)
Gilberdyke's got waiting shelters.
-
It's got empty plant pots
along the platforms.
-
It's got a bike rack.
-
There is a bit of noise...
(LAUGHS)
-
coming from outside of the station.
-
There's also a beeping noise
I can hear.
-
I think that's coming from
within the station though.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(MACHINERY NOISE)
I have got a half an hour wait here
-
at Gilberdyke now
-
(WIND NOISE)
before the all-important train
-
that I have to catch
-
to dodgy station Broomfleet
comes in.
-
I am just gonna spend my time
here in the station.
-
And I'm just basically
gonna cross the platform!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
That wait has gone by super fast.
-
The next train is here now.
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
It's another pretty 158.
-
784 this time.
-
And I can still hear that beeping,
whatever it is!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(WIND NOISE)
I am at dodgy station Broomfleet.
-
This station only sees
six upwards trains
-
and six downwards trains a day.
-
Which is why
as I mentioned before
-
I pretty much planned this day
-
around Broomfleet station.
-
Immediately on stepping off the train,
-
the views from the platforms
-
are really pretty.
-
I'm sure I'm just
gonna be pretty much
-
looking outside of the station
during my time here!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
Broomfleet looks a very basic station.
-
It's got two platforms,
-
served by Northern Trains.
-
We've got some basic blue shelters.
-
There is a level crossing at the end.
-
(SINGS) ♫ When you're at Broomfleet
-
♫ You put your knickers
on your head
-
♫ You put your
knickers on your head
-
♫ You put your knickers
on your head
-
♫ When you're at Broomfleet
-
♫ You put your knickers
on your head
-
♫ And you shout ♫
-
(SHOUTS) Squishy boobies!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
All right, I have just crossed the platform
-
because I've only got
twenty minutes here and...
-
I did want to make sure
-
(LAUGHS)
that I got across for the next train
-
before the gates
of the level crossing went down.
-
They have actually just gone down, but
-
I think that's for
a passing train potentially.
-
Yeah, it is. There's one coming now.
But also,
-
think I might need to
take my coat off at some point.
-
Because the sun's come out and
-
it is actually really rather warm!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
158844
-
has brought me back to Gilberdyke.
-
Where I've got
another half an hour wait.
-
This is the station of
-
the half an hour waits,
I think. Isn't it?
-
But, I mean...
-
I don't wanna speak too soon
-
'cause obviously
the day's not over yet.
-
But I am so happy
-
that so far,
everything has gone to plan.
-
Especially with doing that dodgy station.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
I'm finally on the next train.
-
It's 158791 again.
-
And I say "finally" because
-
the half an hour wait at Gilberdyke
-
actually turned into an hour's wait
-
as this train was
twenty-five minutes delayed.
-
But even so,
-
the day is still absolutely flying by!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAFFIC NOISE)
I'm at Hessle. And wow!
-
I didn't actually know
you could see the Humber Bridge
-
from the station itself.
-
But I am actually very excited
to be here at Hessle.
-
Because I am gonna go
and have a walk to the bridge.
-
Which is something that
-
I've been wanting to do
for quite some time now!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAFFIC NOISE)
At Hessle, we've got Northern Trains.
-
We've got these shelters which...
-
What shape would you call that?
I mean...
-
Di...Different-shaped shelters,
let's go with that!
-
We've got information displays
-
and a very loud road
next to the station.
-
Oh, and it's got two platforms.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
Well, it's a good job
I'm not in a rush
-
to get the next train.
-
(TRAFFIC NOISE)
Hessle does see an hourly train service.
-
I am just gonna take my time
with this walk.
-
Have a chill,
enjoy my time here.
-
Like I say, I'm in no rush to...
to get the next train.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(LOUD TRAFFIC NOISE)
Right, I'm at what I'm calling the start,
-
because it's where I'm starting from,
-
of the Humber Bridge.
-
(WIND NOISE)
Now I am actually gonna be walking
-
the whole way across it.
-
The Humber Bridge spans
the Humber Estuary
-
and it's 1.38 miles long.
-
Now when it first opened,
-
it was the longest road suspension bridge
in the world.
-
I think now it's like the twelfth longest?
-
But yeah, I...
(OUT OF BREATH)
-
I'm a little bit out of breath from
climbing those stairs back there.
-
But I can't wait to walk
the entire length of this bridge.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(WIND NOISE)
Oh, this is an amazing walk!
-
I'm absolutely loving this.
The views are just spectacular!
-
But as well as crossing over,
of course, the flowing water,
-
I have also just crossed a county.
-
Because Hessle is in
East Riding of Yorkshire
-
and we are just coming into
Barton-upon-Humber
-
which is in North Lincolnshire.
-
(TRAFFIC NOISE)
I've yet to go to Barton-upon-Humber.
-
But obviously, I will be doing that
at some point
-
within this series.
-
And when I'm there,
I could now actually potentially
-
just do a really quick changeover.
-
Because there's no need for me
-
to...to go and walk
the Humber Bridge
-
because I'm doing it now!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(LOUD TRAFFIC NOISE)
Okay, so I've made it to the end of the bridge now.
-
It's really loud!
They are like doing some work
-
over on the...west side,
I think it is?
-
But I was wondering how long
that would take me actually.
-
I thought it was gonna take a lot longer!
-
I did notice that there was a train
-
pulling into Hessle station
-
as I stepped onto the bridge,
basically. So...
-
it ba...is...Let's say
it's took twenty-five minutes.
-
That is it.
-
And because it's
twenty-five past two now,
-
if I set off immediately to go back,
-
I should actually make it
back to Hessle
-
in time for the next train
that's pulling in there.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
158784 has brought me
-
to my final station.
-
I'm at Hull.
-
Or its full name,
Hull Paragon Interchange.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
Hull is managed by TPE.
-
It's also served by
Northern Trains, LNER
-
and Hull's very own Hull Trains.
-
And you can connect
for bus and coach services.
-
It has got seven platforms
-
and it is by far...
-
undoubtedly the busiest station
I have been to today.
-
Because most of the trains
that come down this line
-
do terminate here at Hull.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(TRAIN ENGINE NOISE)
I have found a little waiting room 'ere.
-
Although I don't need to wait for very long
-
'cause I am getting outside the station.
-
There are more benches
-
down on the platform.
-
Hull is a staffed station
-
and there are ticket barriers as well.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
I'm off for a wander.
I'm headed for the Humber.
-
Something about
that piece of flowing water
-
I just cannot resist today.
-
I have noticed as well
walking through the centre of Hull
-
that it is very Pride-themed.
-
Which is fabulous to see.
-
I particularly really loved
-
those telephone boxes.
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(WIND NOISE)
Well, I've had a wonderful day!
-
Do you know what? I've actually
had this vlog planned for...
-
I actually can't even tell ya
how many months.
-
It has been so long.
-
But basically,
I had to put it off a bit
-
because I thought it would work best
-
if I had an overnight stay in Hull
-
so that I could get back
down the line to film
-
for the rest of the dodgy stations.
-
So I am gonna be staying over tonight
-
so I can get straight back out
-
really early tomorrow morning.
-
And I am looking forward to that.
-
I hope it's gonna be as enjoyable
-
as today has been.
-
Thank you very much
for watching, everyone.
-
Byesie byes!
-
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
-
(MUSIC ENDS)
-
Now, it is a bit of a mishmash
-
the order of the stations
that I'm visting today.
-
But it is because...Whoa!
