Improve your tennis game: Overhead drill

  • 0:05 - 0:05
    I'm
  • 0:06 - 0:06
    Ben Zeiser,
  • 0:06 - 0:09
head tennis professional at the USTA National Campus,
  • 0:09 - 0:11
and here's a quick tip to help you with your overhead.
  • 0:13 - 0:15
That's uncomfortable. Though it's called an overhead,
  • 0:15 - 0:18
you want to get your body positioned behind the ball for a successful shot.
  • 0:18 - 0:20
    Try this exercise
  • 0:20 - 0:21
to work on improving your overhead.
  • 0:21 - 0:26
We're doing block, and then catch, and then hit. To prepare for this shot,
  • 0:26 - 0:28
reach up with your non-racket hand to block the ball.
  • 0:29 - 0:30
    We're blocking.
  • 0:34 - 0:37
Your hand can probably stay pretty stationary.
  • 0:37 - 0:38
    Good.
  • 0:40 - 0:40
    Nice.
  • 0:43 - 0:43
    Good.
  • 0:44 - 0:45
    Let's do some catching.
  • 0:47 - 0:49
Getting in position to catch the ball will help you
  • 0:49 - 0:52
hit the ball in front rather than over your head.
  • 0:55 - 0:55
    Good.
  • 0:56 - 0:59
Go to your right this time. Left.
  • 1:02 - 1:02
    Now to the...
  • 1:03 - 1:03
    All right,
  • 1:03 - 1:04
    here we go.
  • 1:06 - 1:06
    Good.
  • 1:10 - 1:10
    Perfect.
  • 1:11 - 1:12
    So, practice block,
  • 1:13 - 1:13
    catch,
  • 1:13 - 1:14
    and hit.
  • 1:14 - 1:16
Then put away the lob and end that point.
  • 1:17 - 1:19
