Your Own Heart is Becoming the Beloved
  • 0:13 - 0:15
    26 January 2025
    (with subtitles)
  • 0:18 - 0:22
Q: I feel, sometimes you say,
    we don't know how honest
  • 0:22 - 0:27
or how open we are. And I feel it.
  • 0:27 - 0:32
M: Okay, you say, 'Sometimes we
don't know how open we are'.
  • 0:32 - 0:37
I'm a little bit with this.
But you're open enough to come here.
  • 0:37 - 0:39
M: You know what shop this is?
    Q: Yes.
  • 0:39 - 0:42
    M: What shop is it?
    [laughter]
  • 0:42 - 0:45
    Q: The shop... Empty shop.
  • 0:45 - 0:49
    M: Empty shop. [laughs]
    [laughter]
  • 0:49 - 0:52
M: Very smart. Very good, okay.
    Q: Maybe.
  • 0:52 - 0:55
M: So you come for some emptiness.
    [laughs]
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    [laughter] Okay.
  • 0:57 - 1:02
Q: I just feel it's easy to miss this one.
  • 1:02 - 1:06
M: Empty shop you cannot buy.
    You can only Be.
  • 1:08 - 1:10
    There's nothing to purchase.
  • 1:10 - 1:14
It's a good title 'Come to empty shop'.
    [laughter]
  • 1:14 - 1:19
    Thieves in an empty house.
  • 1:27 - 1:29
    I want to use it.
I want you to use this,
  • 1:29 - 1:36
    why you use this example,
    empty, empty shop.
  • 1:38 - 1:44
M: What I feel is I cannot be,
like I cannot be 100 percent sure
  • 1:44 - 1:50
if there is anything I'm not seeing.
  • 1:50 - 1:53
M: Yes. I don't know if I've ever met anybody
  • 1:53 - 1:56
a 100 percent sure of anything.
  • 1:56 - 2:01
    Except that you are.
  • 2:01 - 2:04
    Maybe this you can say
you're sure of that you exist,
  • 2:04 - 2:11
and that you are experiencing or perceiving.
  • 2:11 - 2:15
You agree or not? You know that you are?
    Q: Yes.
  • 2:15 - 2:18
M: And that you are experiencing?
    Q: Yes.
  • 2:18 - 2:21
M: So only let's work with this then
  • 2:21 - 2:23
as everything else is traffic to this.
  • 2:23 - 2:26
So everything comes is being perceived.
  • 2:26 - 2:30
Comes and goes is being perceived.
    Why perceiving is here?
  • 2:30 - 2:33
Because you are here, you exist.
    Now we must look.
  • 2:33 - 2:36
Leave everything that can come and go.
  • 2:36 - 2:41
    Leave all of that now.
    Only you and perceiving.
  • 2:41 - 2:43
    And of you and perceiving,
  • 2:43 - 2:47
which is most true, if one has to go?
  • 2:58 - 3:01
You say, 'I perceive,' I perceive.
  • 3:01 - 3:04
So, I perceive means every experiencing,
  • 3:04 - 3:09
    whatever is happening is perceived
    by this sense of 'I'.
  • 3:09 - 3:11
    M: Yes?
    Q: Yes.
  • 3:11 - 3:15
M: So you could even say,
    'I am not perceiving'.
  • 3:15 - 3:18
    Which means I'm perceiving
    that I'm not perceiving.
  • 3:18 - 3:23
I'm going to keep it clean and simple.
  • 3:28 - 3:33
    Speaker: Guruji, how about that
    you're perceiving emptiness?
  • 3:35 - 3:38
M: Just when you say, 'What is more true?'
  • 3:38 - 3:42
I don't remember exactly what you said,
    like, 'You're perceiving?'
  • 3:42 - 3:45
M: You know that you exist.
    Q: Yes.
  • 3:45 - 3:49
M: And that you are perceiving
    or experiencing your perceiving
  • 3:49 - 3:53
through the senses or the mind.
  • 3:53 - 3:56
If some inner state or outer states,
  • 3:56 - 4:01
    that's being perceived by you.
  • 4:01 - 4:04
So everything that comes, can go.
  • 4:04 - 4:08
    Mental states, emotional states,
    friends can come,
  • 4:08 - 4:11
people live, people stay, people die,
  • 4:11 - 4:14
you feel sickness, you feel healthy,
  • 4:14 - 4:18
    you feel excitement, feel boredom,
    feel tired, feel energy,
  • 4:18 - 4:21
    M: all this you perceive
    and they come and go.
  • 4:21 - 4:25
    M: You who perceive them,
  • 4:28 - 4:32
    does that come and go?
    Is it personal?
  • 4:32 - 4:36
    M: Also, personal states come.
    Q: Yes.
  • 4:36 - 4:40
    M: So, that's also amongst
the field of perceivable, isn't it?
  • 4:40 - 4:44
    So even those things,
    and the feeling of 'I',
  • 4:44 - 4:48
and autobiography, your ideas about life,
  • 4:48 - 4:52
    all of those personal things,
    they are also perceived. Okay.
  • 4:52 - 4:57
M: And they can change shape,
and their change is also perceived.
  • 4:57 - 5:00
So they cannot be that which perceives them.
  • 5:00 - 5:02
    M: That's true?
    Q: Yes.
  • 5:02 - 5:07
M: That which is perceiving, is it
  • 5:09 - 5:14
    material or immaterial? It's immaterial?
  • 5:14 - 5:16
    Q: It's not material.
    M: It's not material.
  • 5:16 - 5:21
Q: I cannot say what it is.
    But I experience that ...
  • 5:21 - 5:26
    M: Who is speaking now?
  • 5:26 - 5:29
    M: It's not a trick question.
    Q: I'm looking.
  • 5:29 - 5:34
M: Obviously, the response is coming
    so fluidly and so comfortably,
  • 5:34 - 5:38
there's no strain to comment that
all these things are being perceived.
  • 5:38 - 5:42
    And that whatever is perceiving
  • 5:42 - 5:46
itself cannot be perceived by quality.
  • 5:46 - 5:52
    Is it male or female?
Is it any of these things? No.
  • 5:52 - 5:57
So, answers, responses are coming from there.
  • 6:02 - 6:06
So even the responses are coming
    and they are also perceived
  • 6:06 - 6:11
    pouring out of some, whatever,
    something, or no thing.
  • 6:11 - 6:16
    Q: I don't know if it's pouring out
    of something. It's perceived.
  • 6:16 - 6:20
M: Okay, they are appearing also,
    they appear.
  • 6:20 - 6:25
So that which is perceiving them,
what is to be said of that?
  • 6:25 - 6:28
Is it a structure or no structure?
  • 6:28 - 6:33
    Q: It's no structure.
    M: Okay.
  • 6:33 - 6:37
M: Is that significant for you?
Q: It is significant. It is.
  • 6:37 - 6:44
M: Okay. Where does the problem start,
    if one starts?
  • 6:44 - 6:48
M: Is it a new skill that you developed?
  • 6:51 - 6:56
    And anyone can apply.
    It's not particularly to you.
  • 6:56 - 7:00
    It's for anyone.
    For everyone there's a sense of 'I', 'I Am',
  • 7:00 - 7:04
but it's quickly given to the body,
    'I am this person',
  • 7:04 - 7:08
'I'm from Germany', 'I'm from this place',
    'I'm a doctor',
  • 7:08 - 7:11
'I'm this and that and that', is acquired,
  • 7:11 - 7:15
so it takes on the sense
    of being something identifiable.
  • 7:15 - 7:19
    But from your place,
that is also a construct that is seen.
  • 7:19 - 7:22
The 'I' that is seeing them
    is not those things.
  • 7:22 - 7:26
You cannot say he's a doctor or a nurse,
  • 7:26 - 7:32
    or it's 1.7 cm,
  • 7:32 - 7:37
    170 cm, you know,
he doesn't have any of those things.
  • 7:37 - 7:41
What is it like unto itself,
  • 7:41 - 7:44
if it doesn't connect with points of perception
  • 7:44 - 7:48
or things to perceive, by itself?
  • 7:52 - 7:54
Q: It's not bothered by anything.
  • 7:54 - 7:58
M: Yes. Okay, bring the things back.
  • 7:58 - 8:01
M: Is it bothered by them?
    Q: No.
  • 8:01 - 8:05
Q: It is, if identity is missed.
  • 8:05 - 8:08
    M: If identity?
    Q: Is not seen.
  • 8:08 - 8:12
M: So, identity brings all the trouble then?
  • 8:12 - 8:16
Q: Identifying brings all the trouble,
    but for who?
  • 8:16 - 8:21
M: Ahh. Are are you asking me about that?
    [laughter]
  • 8:21 - 8:26
M: You have to find out.
    Right here is good.
  • 8:27 - 8:30
M: The trouble cannot be for that
  • 8:30 - 8:35
Q: which is not touched by it.
    M: Yes.
  • 8:35 - 8:39
M: Is 'that which is not touched by it'
    an object of perception?
  • 8:39 - 8:42
    Q: No.
    M: Where is it?
  • 8:45 - 8:48
    Q: It has no location.
  • 8:50 - 8:52
    M: It has no problem.
    Q: It has no problem.
  • 8:52 - 8:58
M: Let's go to where the problems are.
  • 8:58 - 9:02
Why are you trying to solve a thing
    that has no problem?
  • 9:02 - 9:05
Q: 'Why try to solve a thing
    that has no problem?'
  • 9:05 - 9:08
M: Yes. It has no problem!
    [laughter]
  • 9:08 - 9:11
So where will we go now to find a problem?
  • 9:11 - 9:14
    It is good. It's fine!
    We're looking and it's good.
  • 9:14 - 9:18
    I don't want to feel,
'Ah! Yes, end of thing, I go now.'
  • 9:18 - 9:22
    Because problems begin somewhere
  • 9:22 - 9:24
and everyone is troubled by it.
  • 9:24 - 9:29
Who is the everyone, you must also find.
  • 9:29 - 9:36
It appears that you are no one,
    and you are someone.
  • 9:46 - 9:50
In this receding you come to,
  • 9:50 - 9:56
    'Ah, actually, I am here.
'I', but 'I' as what is here?'
  • 9:56 - 9:59
Well, it's certainly not the person.
  • 9:59 - 10:04
    It's not male or female.
Or it's not Muslim or Christian.
  • 10:04 - 10:08
It's something, something, nothing about it.
  • 10:08 - 10:10
M: Is it a valuable discovery?
    Q: Yes.
  • 10:10 - 10:15
M: Yes. So that's not where problems are.
    Q: No.
  • 10:15 - 10:18
M: Okay. So where problems come
  • 10:18 - 10:21
is in the place of identity ...
    Q: Yes.
  • 10:21 - 10:24
    M: ...where I am someone.
    Q: Yes.
  • 10:26 - 10:31
    M: Is there a way
that this sense of being someone,
  • 10:31 - 10:34
    how does that look now
from the place of your discovery?
  • 10:34 - 10:37
'Fundamentally, I am not any of these things
  • 10:37 - 10:40
    that have been spoken of.'
  • 10:40 - 10:46
How does the things, the world of things,
    what is their value?
  • 10:46 - 10:49
    They don't impact upon this,
  • 10:49 - 10:52
    but somehow this must be
    the cause of them playing,
  • 10:52 - 10:55
and here the sense 'I' is also there,
  • 10:55 - 11:00
and a very familiar feeling of 'I'.
    But is it stable?
  • 11:00 - 11:03
Is it always constant, this 'I',
    now, the second 'I'?
  • 11:03 - 11:07
Q: The moving 'I' is not constant.
    M: Yes, yes.
  • 11:07 - 11:12
M: So is it not the moving 'I'
    who came to satsang?
  • 11:12 - 11:14
    Q: Yes.
    M: Yes.
  • 11:17 - 11:23
    M: Because what?
    It cannot control its world.
  • 11:25 - 11:30
Q: And it's good it cannot,
    because it wouldn't ...
  • 11:30 - 11:35
it wouldn't find out what it really is
    if it could control anything.
  • 11:35 - 11:40
Like if there wouldn't be this trouble
and this pain in this identifying,
  • 11:40 - 11:43
there would be no urge to ...
  • 11:43 - 11:48
M: So it must have an urge.
    It must have a drive.
  • 11:48 - 11:54
What is the drive of this 'I'
    which is the 'I'-person?
  • 11:54 - 11:56
    Because all the human beings,
  • 11:56 - 12:04
we have this mask or sickness
    of 'I'-me, 'I'-me.
  • 12:04 - 12:07
What is the 'I'-me really in search of?
  • 12:07 - 12:10
    Everybody can take this.
  • 12:10 - 12:16
The 'I'-me, is it quiet and content
    and happily 'I'-me?
  • 12:16 - 12:19
No. So what does it want?
  • 12:19 - 12:22
Speaker: Probably, to be free of suffering.
  • 12:22 - 12:25
M: It's to be free of suffering.
  • 12:25 - 12:29
Only you? Only you? Oh, okay, okay.
    To be free of suffering.
  • 12:29 - 12:33
M: What is it suffering from?
    Group: It's projection.
  • 12:33 - 12:37
    M: It's projection. It's projection.
    Da da da ...
  • 12:37 - 12:41
    We're in common ground now.
    It's having some suffering.
  • 12:41 - 12:44
Q: But I'm not sure that this 'I',
  • 12:44 - 12:47
    like this identified one
    wants to be at peace.
  • 12:47 - 12:50
    M: Wants to be?
    Q: At peace.
  • 12:50 - 12:53
M: Doesn't want to be at peace?
Q: I'm not sure about that.
  • 12:53 - 12:55
M: You speaking now are not that.
  • 12:55 - 12:59
M: Is that what you're saying?
    Q: Not being ...?
  • 12:59 - 13:04
M: Not the person, you're not sure
the person self is really ... da da da.
  • 13:04 - 13:08
    Who is speaking now?
Just to be clear and look.
  • 13:08 - 13:10
    You're looking from where?
  • 13:10 - 13:15
    From an identified place
    or a not identified place?
  • 13:15 - 13:21
There is a feeling 'I Am',
    I call it consciousness,
  • 13:21 - 13:25
that 'I Am'-ness without strong identification
  • 13:25 - 13:31
with the personal sense, that is,
  • 13:31 - 13:35
let me call it the Brahman for the moment,
  • 13:35 - 13:38
only because I can I have
    another word called Parabrahman.
  • 13:38 - 13:42
    Could you understand? All right.
    So it is the consciousness.
  • 13:42 - 13:45
It is the guru state of being,
  • 13:45 - 13:48
which is there for all, for everybody.
  • 13:48 - 13:52
It is that in which the world of person
    and its world
  • 13:52 - 13:55
and all of this is seen from here,
  • 13:55 - 13:58
but is not disturbed by that.
  • 13:58 - 14:02
And from this place, 'I Am' has the power,
  • 14:02 - 14:07
    by looking into the realm
of the 'I'-me and the 'I'-person,
  • 14:07 - 14:11
    imparts some grace to it.
As in the form of the 'I'-person ...
  • 14:11 - 14:15
    Are we following? It's good?
In the form of the 'I'-person
  • 14:15 - 14:18
    it is still consciousness,
    it's a mode of consciousness.
  • 14:18 - 14:22
    And that sense of being,
if you want to call it a soul ...
  • 14:22 - 14:26
Are we alright for the moment?
    Just working words.
  • 14:26 - 14:32
The soul, it has different characteristics.
  • 14:32 - 14:36
In India, they speak of the different gunas,
  • 14:36 - 14:38
which are kind of energetic qualities
  • 14:38 - 14:42
that affect the soul, some soul tendency.
  • 14:42 - 14:46
    Q: Sorry, but the soul
you call the person now? Or what?
  • 14:46 - 14:49
M: Yes. Let me just continue
    and then you'll see.
  • 14:49 - 14:54
M: So then, the sense of being somebody,
  • 14:54 - 14:57
    an entity with the characteristic,
    with a history,
  • 14:57 - 15:00
with association, with parents, with family,
  • 15:00 - 15:04
with all of these things, self description,
  • 15:04 - 15:07
    that makes you uniquely you.
  • 15:07 - 15:10
At least, for the time being
  • 15:10 - 15:14
    because also you keep changing
    what you say about yourself.
  • 15:14 - 15:18
If you keep on writing an autobiography
over a period of 20 years,
  • 15:18 - 15:22
    it's going to keep changing.
So the person is not stable.
  • 15:22 - 15:25
Whereas the 'I Am', which generates
  • 15:25 - 15:28
the projection of the mind and person ...
  • 15:28 - 15:33
I'm going to call person and mind similar,
    for the moment.
  • 15:33 - 15:38
If you want me to cover because
it's good if you understand this thing,
  • 15:38 - 15:41
then it becomes more clear, no?
  • 15:41 - 15:48
So the personal state of consciousness
  • 15:48 - 15:51
is where all the conflicts can come,
    desire can come.
  • 15:51 - 15:55
    Pain, life, death, you, me,
this, that, up, down, heaven, hell,
  • 15:55 - 15:59
all these things are in there for the person.
  • 15:59 - 16:02
    It's never a stable environment.
  • 16:02 - 16:05
    And even unto itself,
    with nothing to interfere,
  • 16:05 - 16:07
    it interferes with itself.
  • 16:07 - 16:10
It also suffers from its own, 'I'm lonely,
  • 16:10 - 16:15
I don't know what I'm going to do.'
    So it's never without trouble.
  • 16:15 - 16:21
But as it's also on a journey
of this world, as we know it,
  • 16:21 - 16:25
each one is on a journey of Self-discovery.
  • 16:25 - 16:28
It may not be conscious of it like that.
  • 16:28 - 16:32
For a while our urge for discovering things
    can be merely phenomenal.
  • 16:32 - 16:36
Like, I want to be a lawyer or a doctor,
    to be famous,
  • 16:36 - 16:39
I want to be a singer,
    I want to be something,
  • 16:39 - 16:44
    and all this produces fruit.
It's a power, it produces fruit.
  • 16:44 - 16:48
You may indeed become famous or rich,
    all these kinds of things.
  • 16:48 - 16:52
    But we are discovering,
even those who became very rich,
  • 16:52 - 16:55
at some point they're not satisfied
    with being rich
  • 16:55 - 16:57
as the whole system is built like that.
  • 16:57 - 17:01
You can never be really satisfied,
  • 17:01 - 17:06
really genuinely satisfied, until you're home.
  • 17:06 - 17:09
    And 'home' means to awaken
    to your True nature,
  • 17:09 - 17:12
    which is not somewhere else,
    not over there,
  • 17:12 - 17:16
    it's like peeling away, no?
  • 17:21 - 17:24
So my way of looking at it is that
  • 17:24 - 17:30
    the person is the one
who takes the journey of life.
  • 17:30 - 17:32
    And I would not say...
  • 17:32 - 17:35
In Advaita thought the person doesn't exist,
  • 17:35 - 17:40
the mind doesn't exist, the world doesn't exist,
    and ultimately it is true,
  • 17:40 - 17:43
    but you must understand
in what light it is true.
  • 17:43 - 17:48
Because when you say to beings
who have a strong idea of self
  • 17:48 - 17:53
    and who have a philosophy,
have relief, have belief, all these things,
  • 17:53 - 17:55
'It's not true, it doesn't exist',
  • 17:55 - 17:59
    it's very hurtful,
'You don't know what you're saying!'
  • 17:59 - 18:03
    Some can adopt that thing
and indeed learn and take that attitude,
  • 18:03 - 18:08
    but inside it's not true.
    Something has to be clear.
  • 18:08 - 18:14
So the sense of being someone,
    it is consciousness.
  • 18:14 - 18:17
When you say 'I', when you feel 'I',
  • 18:17 - 18:21
    because nobody gave you 'I'.
    Everything else you receive.
  • 18:21 - 18:26
Nobody, not your parents didn't say,
'I'm going to name you "I".'
  • 18:26 - 18:31
    And yet all the beings
have this intuitive self-reference of 'I'.
  • 18:31 - 18:34
    Not the English version.
  • 18:34 - 18:36
So even mosquitoes have a feeling of 'I'.
  • 18:36 - 18:40
    'I' points to existence, 'I'-exist.
    That's what it really means.
  • 18:40 - 18:44
But 'I'-person very rarely touchs on this root
  • 18:44 - 18:49
    that it means existence
    and that it is conscious.
  • 18:49 - 18:53
    It doesn't even know
that it cannot die as consciousness.
  • 18:53 - 18:56
    Consciousness cannot die.
  • 18:56 - 19:00
But its belief 'I am the body' can die.
  • 19:00 - 19:05
    But doesn't mean It dies.
    The body will die.
  • 19:05 - 19:08
But what you 'are' cannot die,
  • 19:08 - 19:12
it will just transfer for more experiencing
  • 19:12 - 19:15
if there's more things to experience.
  • 19:15 - 19:19
    So this urge inside
with different beings in different bodies,
  • 19:19 - 19:23
    like identities in different bodies,
    are on a journey,
  • 19:23 - 19:25
    depending upon your maturity.
  • 19:25 - 19:27
Some people only want to be famous,
  • 19:27 - 19:30
    or, 'I want 5 children,
    I want a beautiful house,
  • 19:30 - 19:33
I want enough money to do what I want'.
  • 19:33 - 19:38
    Those desires are permitted
    by Parabrahman, by Paramatman.
  • 19:38 - 19:40
That life gives life in this.
  • 19:40 - 19:43
All desires can be had, good and bad.
  • 19:43 - 19:46
And it will help you to fulfil your desires.
  • 19:46 - 19:49
    Even a thief,
He wants you to be a better thief.
  • 19:49 - 19:52
    It gives the power
to learn to be a better thief!
  • 19:52 - 19:56
Because God has a use for you
    as a great thief. [laughter]
  • 19:56 - 19:59
Because He is going to perfect the other ones,
  • 19:59 - 20:03
who may be somewhere more evolved
    with your thievery.
  • 20:03 - 20:09
    They need this thievery
    to move on even more.
  • 20:09 - 20:14
The whole thing is beautifully managed
    [laughter]
  • 20:14 - 20:18
by Paramatman taking care of all things.
  • 20:18 - 20:21
    Not one thing goes missing.
    Not only for human beings,
  • 20:21 - 20:25
the ant kingdom, the bee kingdom,
  • 20:25 - 20:31
    the horse and every kingdom,
He is the God of all of them.
  • 20:31 - 20:34
    They have their rules.
    They have their philosophies.
  • 20:34 - 20:38
    They have their ways.
They have their likes and dislikes.
  • 20:38 - 20:41
They have their urges and their suffering.
  • 20:41 - 20:43
    Everything is evolving somehow.
  • 20:43 - 20:46
Let's stick to our world for a little bit. Okay?
  • 20:46 - 20:49
So in our world, this urge is there,
  • 20:49 - 20:52
and for a while, depending upon ...
  • 20:52 - 20:57
    because not all the beings
are at the same level of maturity.
  • 20:57 - 21:01
He made it like that. He didn't say,
all who are mature go here
  • 21:01 - 21:05
and all of you mature [go here.]
No, He mixes up. And we fight.
  • 21:05 - 21:08
    But we need it also.
  • 21:08 - 21:12
    I'm saying this so that
you don't complain about your life.
  • 21:12 - 21:15
    Everything that's sent to you,
if you take it only as,
  • 21:15 - 21:19
    'This thing happened to me,
you didn't do anything about it.'
  • 21:19 - 21:21
    Actually, you earned it.
  • 21:21 - 21:24
You have to make use of the experience of it
  • 21:24 - 21:27
    to transcend in yourself.
  • 21:27 - 21:29
    As you transcend in yourself
  • 21:29 - 21:33
your light becomes light for others also.
  • 21:33 - 21:37
But don't think like that, 'I, my light ...'
    [laughter]
  • 21:37 - 21:40
    You understand?
  • 21:40 - 21:42
If you have this attitude, okay.
  • 21:42 - 21:46
    But somehow this is needed,
    it's pointing out something.
  • 21:46 - 21:49
Rather than 'Oh, they are attacking me ...'
  • 21:49 - 21:53
The self as a person is also very myopic
  • 21:53 - 21:55
    and very self protecting.
  • 21:55 - 22:00
That's why he doesn't grow so quick
    because it feels vulnerable.
  • 22:00 - 22:03
And when you're vulnerable it locks in
  • 22:03 - 22:06
and 'pew pew'. [shoots] It locks in.
  • 22:06 - 22:10
When you see these things, you realise,
    'But a deeper consciousness ...'
  • 22:10 - 22:14
    She's just been speaking
    from this deeper consciousness,
  • 22:14 - 22:17
in which the sense of the person and its world
  • 22:17 - 22:19
    are seen with more detachment.
  • 22:19 - 22:24
You say, 'But I speak with you ...
But from here, I'm actually just fine'.
  • 22:24 - 22:29
    What do you want?
    What do you need?
  • 22:29 - 22:32
    What is your problem?
    'Actually, here, nothing actually'.
  • 22:32 - 22:35
For problem, I have to go back over there.
  • 22:35 - 22:38
And over there is in the state of the person
  • 22:38 - 22:42
and my neighbours and my relationship
    and things,
  • 22:42 - 22:46
and I get enough money and ...
This is the woes of the person.
  • 22:46 - 22:49
They are here to make you grow, to help you.
  • 22:49 - 22:52
When you see and understand this a little bit,
  • 22:52 - 22:57
you don't get angry, 'Oh, they are the cause.'
    But you use it.
  • 22:57 - 23:04
    But when you come here,
I want to fast forward! Which you can.
  • 23:04 - 23:06
You can go tick tock, tick tock.
  • 23:06 - 23:10
Or you can somehow come into big seeing.
  • 23:10 - 23:16
    You can travel in footsteps
or you can travel by galaxies.
  • 23:16 - 23:21
So here, I feel, and I assume,
    you may correct me,
  • 23:21 - 23:24
    that when you come here,
    there is within the capacity
  • 23:24 - 23:28
to 'phoo' flower into higher states.
  • 23:28 - 23:31
    When you realise,
'I'm kind of wasting my time
  • 23:31 - 23:34
in the person quite a lot.
  • 23:34 - 23:39
Because now I'm aware of myself
    in consciousness, as consciousness'.
  • 23:39 - 23:41
    And what happens by that?
  • 23:41 - 23:44
Well, as you learn to observe,
    as I've shown,
  • 23:44 - 23:47
    learn to observe things more,
    as we're too identified,
  • 23:47 - 23:50
if you identify you slow down,
    and what happens?
  • 23:50 - 23:53
    You start to accumulate concepts.
  • 23:53 - 23:55
And the more concepts you accumulate,
  • 23:55 - 24:01
    the more opaque you become,
the more solid, the more rigid.
  • 24:01 - 24:04
    If you know people
who have a pile of concepts,
  • 24:04 - 24:08
    their concepts and your concepts
    can't dance. 'No, no, whoa.'
  • 24:08 - 24:12
Even family can be like this.
  • 24:12 - 24:17
So what you will learn is,
    by observing with detachment,
  • 24:17 - 24:22
    learning to look and see
if you can catch this seeing
  • 24:22 - 24:24
    where even your person,
  • 24:24 - 24:32
    your person, the subject
of all your world, is itself seen.
  • 24:32 - 24:36
When you can see, you can say, 'Whoa!'
  • 24:36 - 24:39
It's not just a world, but the personal self
  • 24:39 - 24:42
that has the reflection of that world.
  • 24:42 - 24:47
They are, when I say two sides of one coin,
    they go together.
  • 24:47 - 24:52
    Your mistake has been,
    you're identifying yourself and feeling,
  • 24:52 - 24:56
    'But it's the world,
everything is wrong there. It's not me.'
  • 24:56 - 24:58
What makes you do that is because
  • 24:58 - 25:01
also your person goes by the title of 'I'.
  • 25:01 - 25:06
And 'I' means God. You understand?
  • 25:06 - 25:13
    Your 'I' is consciousness,
    which is Godly principle.
  • 25:13 - 25:15
Then you understand this 'I', the 'I'-me,
  • 25:15 - 25:19
and the 'I'-I, or the 'I'-am',
    you see the difference.
  • 25:19 - 25:24
    When we go into 'I'-me,
all your life struggle, 'This I can't get',
  • 25:24 - 25:28
'this one is sick and ...'
it is strong, it is strong.
  • 25:28 - 25:31
It didn't have its origin in one body life-form.
  • 25:31 - 25:34
It's been going on for a long time.
  • 25:34 - 25:38
    But gradually it's growing through,
what I call, the guna field.
  • 25:38 - 25:44
    Gunas mean some energy
    which is tamasic guna.
  • 25:44 - 25:49
Means that when the entity of self
    is more resistant
  • 25:49 - 25:53
and more sort of easily troubled
  • 25:53 - 25:57
and full of identity and resistance,
  • 25:57 - 26:00
that's called tamasic guna, tama guna.
  • 26:00 - 26:04
    Then the energy,
the entity energy can also have
  • 26:04 - 26:06
something you can call raja guna,
  • 26:06 - 26:10
means the soul is more energetic,
    it's full of desire,
  • 26:10 - 26:14
it wants to do things, it's adventurous,
    it has many ideas.
  • 26:14 - 26:18
And then, also, another guna called sattva guna.
  • 26:18 - 26:20
    Sattva guna is more pure,
  • 26:20 - 26:24
    meaning when the energy field
    is more attracted to spirit;
  • 26:24 - 26:28
it wants to evolve in consciousness,
    it wants to realise.
  • 26:28 - 26:32
    These gunas are playing
    within the beingness.
  • 26:32 - 26:36
    Some gunas have more ascendance,
    strongerer in one.
  • 26:36 - 26:40
Another stronger in another one. Like this.
  • 26:40 - 26:42
So all of you, I say,
  • 26:42 - 26:48
    you must be exhibiting
    some stronger sattva guna.
  • 26:48 - 26:53
But you have raja guna in there
    pulling at your tail. [laughter]
  • 26:53 - 26:59
And sometimes tamas guna, 'Uhh, tsk.'
  • 26:59 - 27:01
    They're all part of it.
    [laughter]
  • 27:01 - 27:05
It's a kind of fun way of looking, no?
  • 27:05 - 27:08
It's not that funny, actually. [laughs]
  • 27:08 - 27:10
But we understand a little bit.
  • 27:10 - 27:15
So, somehow to come to satsang
  • 27:15 - 27:18
without anyone pressuring you to do that
  • 27:18 - 27:21
means your soul is attracted a bit towards it.
  • 27:21 - 27:25
And the more you find out,
    and not just intellectually,
  • 27:25 - 27:29
but begin to experience your understanding,
    experiential understanding,
  • 27:29 - 27:35
    you're encouraged within yourself,
    you're falling in love.
  • 27:35 - 27:40
If you fall in love with someone
and really falling in love deeply,
  • 27:40 - 27:42
you will require nobody to remind you
  • 27:42 - 27:45
    to remember your beloved.
  • 27:45 - 27:48
The urge comes from inside, it's pulling,
  • 27:48 - 27:54
    always, whatever you're doing you're thinking ...
    [laughter]
  • 27:54 - 27:57
So your own self, your own heart
    is becoming the beloved
  • 27:57 - 28:02
of your sense of your person.
  • 28:02 - 28:07
    It's in the sattva guna,
    it's drawing more and more.
  • 28:07 - 28:12
    After sattva guna what happens?
  • 28:12 - 28:18
    They call one state turiya,
    which means becoming clean,
  • 28:18 - 28:21
    functioning more from consciousness.
  • 28:21 - 28:25
The lower states don't trouble you,
    they don't trouble.
  • 28:25 - 28:29
    Identity doesn't trouble you.
At some point it won't trouble you.
  • 28:29 - 28:31
People call you, 'So you're Paulette?'
  • 28:31 - 28:34
'Yes, it's my name'. You still use the name.
  • 28:34 - 28:39
When you wake up fully into yourself,
you will not have to change name.
  • 28:39 - 28:42
You don't have to call yourself Parabrahman,
  • 28:42 - 28:45
    or some wonderful name.
  • 28:45 - 28:47
You can still use your name.
  • 28:47 - 28:50
But you are not this name.
  • 28:50 - 28:55
    You see, it's like, somehow,
    something's unfolding,
  • 28:55 - 28:58
and concepts don't stick with you.
  • 28:58 - 29:02
The more they don't stick with you,
    they're not so important.
  • 29:02 - 29:04
Then all is available for you.
  • 29:04 - 29:07
You can listen without having to decide,
  • 29:07 - 29:12
'I believe in this. What do you believe?
    What is your standpoint?'
  • 29:12 - 29:17
    It doesn't matter, actually,
as you're in the All-ness of your being.
  • 29:20 - 29:25
Is it okay I'm talking like this?
    Let's clear the field. Okay.
  • 29:25 - 29:28
We're sweeping the house, so you understand.
  • 29:28 - 29:32
When you say, 'I don't know why
    I keep getting these things',
  • 29:32 - 29:37
    that relationship building is sticky.
  • 29:37 - 29:42
    I don't say, I'll show you how
to solve that problem, that problem.
  • 29:42 - 29:44
    I say learn something,
  • 29:44 - 29:50
learn to observe your sense of identity
    and its likes and dislikes,
  • 29:50 - 29:54
    but with some distance learn.
    You can see.
  • 29:54 - 29:57
    And learn to detach.
  • 29:57 - 30:02
    And what did I say?
    Should I say 99.9 percent
  • 30:02 - 30:05
of the things in the world
    does not trouble you?
  • 30:05 - 30:09
    Means you can walk anywhere
in the world and things don't go ...
  • 30:09 - 30:13
    You can move. Natural detachment.
  • 30:13 - 30:18
    But the 0.1 [laughter]
    of the things that matter.
  • 30:18 - 30:22
'Oh, yeah, but no, no, I don't like pink.
  • 30:22 - 30:25
    Mmm-mmm. Not me. Mmm-mmm.
    I don't like this.
  • 30:25 - 30:28
    Peacock feathers,
oh, keep it away from me!'
  • 30:28 - 30:33
All this kind of stuff keeps you tied up
into the shape of the person.
  • 30:33 - 30:38
You feel proud, 'I'm this kind of person.
I'm not that kind of person'.
  • 30:38 - 30:42
You don't realise how we cheat
  • 30:42 - 30:47
    and shrink from your beauty.
  • 30:47 - 30:52
    All of this is you!
  • 30:52 - 30:57
You will never learn and really ...
  • 30:57 - 31:04
    Love everyone!
Even those not yet born, you love.
  • 31:04 - 31:10
'Oh, no, but I've never seen them.
Oh, I didn't know.' No, no.
  • 31:10 - 31:13
    Understand? Because it's your nature.
  • 31:13 - 31:16
    It's not just your choice.
  • 31:16 - 31:19
And so I say, what is the simple thing?
  • 31:19 - 31:22
Learn to observe more and more
  • 31:22 - 31:25
    with detachment, learn to see.
  • 31:25 - 31:28
    The mind, the maya-mind says,
    'That's wasting time,
  • 31:28 - 31:31
I don't get anything from doing that.
  • 31:31 - 31:35
I fall asleep whenever I try to look
    without attachment, I fall asleep.
  • 31:35 - 31:39
    Even here when we do
    the 'Just Be' exercise ...'
  • 31:39 - 31:43
Ding dong! I say like this ...
    [mimics falling asleep] [laughter]
  • 31:43 - 31:47
    Just woke up!
    [laughter]
  • 31:47 - 31:53
    What is this?
It is a kind of psychic resistance, it's in us.
  • 31:53 - 31:55
Something that is trying to resist
  • 31:55 - 31:58
from coming into the fullness of yourself.
  • 31:58 - 32:01
It's a force, this maya force
    is a little resistance.
  • 32:01 - 32:05
But don't be worried. It will soon change.
  • 32:05 - 32:09
The minute you begin to feel the darshan
  • 32:09 - 32:14
of your own heart, [deep breath]
    so much encouragement.
  • 32:14 - 32:17
    But you must earn it.
  • 32:17 - 32:20
And what the teacher will do is
    teach this thing,
  • 32:20 - 32:24
but you have to be on board.
  • 32:24 - 32:28
You have to be on board.
    You have to be there.
  • 32:28 - 32:33
Because even greatest guru cannot help you
if your heart's not on board.
  • 32:33 - 32:36
    You must work for it.
And look what it is also.
  • 32:36 - 32:41
It's very mystical. But it's not difficult.
  • 32:41 - 32:43
The path has been made so clean.
  • 32:43 - 32:46
The higher you go, the purer the climate,
  • 32:46 - 32:49
the simpler the advice, if you can take,
  • 32:49 - 32:51
    but the stronger the resistance.
  • 32:51 - 32:54
Because your earth self 'arrgh' is fighting.
  • 32:54 - 32:59
It's lazy. 'Argh.' It's like this.
    You have to watch him.
  • 32:59 - 33:03
You have to learn to observe this, okay,
    and press on.
  • 33:03 - 33:06
    And what you have,
you may say at some point,
  • 33:06 - 33:11
'I have nothing to encourage me
because my mind is just killing me.'
  • 33:11 - 33:16
    And some people say,
'But Guruji told you to do.'
  • 33:16 - 33:18
'Yes, yes. Yeah, yeah, I do.'
  • 33:18 - 33:21
    Why? Because you have faith
  • 33:21 - 33:25
and faith enough to give you
    some strength, some courage.
  • 33:25 - 33:29
Then also life, the source, empowers you,
  • 33:29 - 33:33
    because you chose,
    when you've chosen many things,
  • 33:33 - 33:36
    you can keep on choosing
    many things in life,
  • 33:36 - 33:41
    but you're choosing Supreme,
  • 33:41 - 33:46
    you're choosing God-consciousness,
    you're choosing Self.
  • 33:48 - 33:53
    When I speak like this,
    I get touched, you see?
  • 33:53 - 33:55
    If you choose This,
  • 33:55 - 34:00
then you are really making use
    of this life-form.
  • 34:00 - 34:05
Because you can choose many things
    and they will delay you.
  • 34:05 - 34:08
And it's okay. You like this thing. You like that.
  • 34:08 - 34:11
    It's freedom. It's okay, it's okay.
  • 34:11 - 34:15
But if you have in your heart this choice,
  • 34:18 - 34:23
then you have taken the highest choice.
  • 34:23 - 34:29
    Then you will be tested
and you must pass this test.
  • 34:31 - 34:36
And then all the grace of Parabrahman
    comes for you.
  • 34:39 - 34:42
If you say, 'I went around the corner,
  • 34:42 - 34:45
    somebody went, 'Boo!'
I don't want to go there',
  • 34:45 - 34:48
then you come, 'Guruji what is the highest?'
  • 34:48 - 34:52
I said, You didn't even pass the lowest!
  • 34:52 - 34:55
    [laughter]
  • 34:55 - 34:57
    M: You want the highest.
  • 34:57 - 35:01
I say, a little person comes,
says, 'Look at you. Oh, no, no'.
  • 35:01 - 35:04
    And you're ... [imitates crying]
  • 35:04 - 35:07
    I say these small things,
how are you going to overcome?
  • 35:07 - 35:12
By looking and learning to let the fear ...
Don't try to stop the feelings.
  • 35:12 - 35:14
Let them come. Don't try and stop them.
  • 35:14 - 35:19
What you need is not to stop them,
but to have clear seeing of them.
  • 35:19 - 35:23
Just see that it's the life force.
  • 35:23 - 35:27
The force of habit is playing
    and this is its domain,
  • 35:27 - 35:30
this is its sensors, [touches the body]
  • 35:30 - 35:33
    it's playing in here
    and the mind is playing.
  • 35:33 - 35:37
And you say, 'But how I can see this?
  • 35:37 - 35:38
    How come I'm seeing this?'
  • 35:38 - 35:43
Gradually, you stay in your satsang,
you listen, you start to find,
  • 35:43 - 35:46
'Where there didn't seem to be a way,
    there is a way!'
  • 35:46 - 35:53
    Which way is it?
It's here, it's here, it's here. [points to heart]
  • 35:56 - 36:01
So, you just continue. Don't try ...
  • 36:01 - 36:04
If someone gets a bit hurt,
    you go try something else,
  • 36:04 - 36:06
you try something else and try.
  • 36:06 - 36:10
No, no. You must have some faith.
  • 36:10 - 36:13
    If you don't have faith,
    you can pray, ask Baba,
  • 36:13 - 36:18
    'Oh, Guruji, please,
I want to believe, I trust,
  • 36:18 - 36:23
but I'm weak, please help me.'
    God's help comes.
  • 36:23 - 36:27
    Help comes. Be humble.
  • 36:27 - 36:32
As you're growing, kindness is coming.
    Kindness is coming.
  • 36:32 - 36:35
    Maybe you didn't realise
    how unkind your behaviour is.
  • 36:35 - 36:40
    Selfishness is going.
    Empathy is coming.
  • 36:42 - 36:45
    Spaciousness is coming.
  • 36:45 - 36:48
    Heaviness is leaving.
  • 36:51 - 36:58
Unexpected boon and grace is flowing,
  • 36:58 - 37:02
    seemingly undeserved, it's coming.
  • 37:04 - 37:06
    Then, things that you feel,
  • 37:06 - 37:10
'But how did this come?' are coming.
  • 37:10 - 37:14
Then when you start to feel great,
    something goes, 'Ehh! Uhh!'
  • 37:14 - 37:18
    That is coming also.
    Everything is coming. [laughter]
  • 37:18 - 37:22
    You're going to give up.
    Like this it comes.
  • 37:29 - 37:36
    I have a tremendous...
I have in my heart I found
  • 37:36 - 37:39
the love for all the beings is there.
  • 37:39 - 37:42
    I didn't work at it.
  • 37:42 - 37:47
    You just stay open,
you come to your natural love,
  • 37:47 - 37:50
    your natural state is there.
  • 37:50 - 37:59
    But the service to sangha,
who, if I am right about it,
  • 37:59 - 38:09
are those I perceive to be
on a higher journey of awakening,
  • 38:09 - 38:14
then this body, this life force
    is dedicated to that.
  • 38:17 - 38:19
    It's dedicated to that.
  • 38:19 - 38:23
    You will have troubles
  • 38:23 - 38:27
    but you will overcome them.
  • 38:31 - 38:40
    And the highest, clearest power
in the universe has called you,
  • 38:40 - 38:43
    [silence]
  • 38:57 - 39:01
    and supports your seeing.
  • 39:05 - 39:11
    Stop thinking of yourself
    as some petty little thing.
  • 39:11 - 39:16
    But don't think of yourself
as a great thing also. [laughter]
  • 39:19 - 39:21
    Yeah.
  • 39:24 - 39:28
And the one thing that will be repeated:
    Don't give up.
  • 39:28 - 39:32
    Keep looking and clarify
    your misunderstanding of you.
  • 39:32 - 39:36
Someone says, 'But I'm doing like this.'
    I say no, no.
  • 39:36 - 39:43
What I show, come now, you do. Look.
Da da da da. Come. [exhales]
  • 39:43 - 39:45
Don't put this in your pocket.
  • 39:45 - 39:52
Put it in your heart and stay with it
    and increase in it.
  • 39:55 - 39:59
    And so your autobiography
that you write in your person,
  • 39:59 - 40:03
    that will disappear.
  • 40:22 - 40:26
    Group: Thank you.
    M: Thank you.
  • 40:42 - 40:44
M: What is happening also, is that,
  • 40:44 - 40:49
    I'm finding more the ones,
    I just find them,
  • 40:49 - 40:55
    we stay together, we look,
and quickly from here, [indicates mind noise]
  • 40:55 - 40:59
    just go down. [more silent]
  • 40:59 - 41:04
You want to come in with me,
    we go down. Stay.
  • 41:04 - 41:09
And all this mind stuff starts to
  • 41:09 - 41:13
just dry up very naturally. Just simple.
  • 41:13 - 41:16
I told you from the beginning it is simple,
  • 41:16 - 41:19
because you don't have to create your Self.
  • 41:19 - 41:22
You can create a false self.
  • 41:22 - 41:28
But your True Self you can only discover.
  • 41:28 - 41:33
    When you discover t,
the discoverer merges in it also.
