PowerPoint: creating a voice over presentation

  • 0:00 - 0:02
    PROFESSOR: This
    video will show you
  • 0:02 - 0:04
    how to do a voiceover
    in Microsoft Powerpoint.
  • 0:04 - 0:07
There are many ways to do
this, but this is just one
  • 0:07 - 0:10
    easy, straightforward way
    to get your voice recorded
  • 0:10 - 0:14
    while you're doing a
    Powerpoint presentation.
  • 0:14 - 0:17
So open in front of me
    is a Microsoft Powerpoint
  • 0:17 - 0:18
    presentation.
  • 0:18 - 0:21
    Go to the Slideshow tab.
  • 0:21 - 0:24
    And click on Record Slideshow.
  • 0:24 - 0:26
    Start recording from beginning.
  • 0:26 - 0:29
    And you can click
    on Start Recording.
  • 0:29 - 0:35
Now, be sure to talk but to stop
    talking before you switch over
  • 0:35 - 0:36
    to the next slide.
  • 0:36 - 0:39
    While I'm talking, my
    voice is being recorded.
  • 0:39 - 0:42
    And once I'm ready to
    switch to the next slide,
  • 0:42 - 0:45
    it's important that
    I stop talking,
  • 0:45 - 0:47
    switch to the next
    slide, and then you
  • 0:47 - 0:49
    can continue talking again.
  • 0:49 - 0:52
    If you talk while you're
    switching to the next slide,
  • 0:52 - 0:54
    those words won't be recorded.
  • 0:54 - 0:55
    So there will be
    some words missing.
  • 0:55 - 0:57
    And it is quite a
    habit that we have
  • 0:57 - 1:00
    to continue talking while
    we are switching over
  • 1:00 - 1:03
    to the next slide.
  • 1:03 - 1:04
    And you can continue recording.
  • 1:04 - 1:06
    Stop talking just
    before you're going
  • 1:06 - 1:09
to switch to the next slide.
  • 1:09 - 1:10
    And continue talking.
  • 1:10 - 1:12
    Continue recording.
  • 1:12 - 1:15
    Now, say you want to
    rerecord whatever you said
  • 1:15 - 1:19
    while presenting
    this specific slide.
  • 1:19 - 1:25
Then you can click on Escape or
    press Escape on your keyboard,
  • 1:25 - 1:28
    and you'll see that
    the voice recording--
  • 1:28 - 1:31
    the audio file--
    is situated here.
  • 1:31 - 1:34
    Now, while on this slide,
    you can rerecord this slide
  • 1:34 - 1:39
    by going to Start Recording
    From Current Slide.
  • 1:39 - 1:41
    Don't click on Start
    Recording From Beginning,
  • 1:41 - 1:44
    because then you have to
rerecord all the slides that you
  • 1:44 - 1:45
    have already recorded on.
  • 1:45 - 1:48
    Start recording
    from current slide.
  • 1:48 - 1:50
    And here, you can
    redo your recording,
  • 1:50 - 1:56
    and the audio file is
    automatically written over.
  • 1:56 - 2:00
    And you can continue
    through all your slides.
  • 2:00 - 2:03
    Once you're done, you
    can click on Escape.
  • 2:03 - 2:05
    And you'll see that
    the audio files
  • 2:05 - 2:09
are all here at the bottom.
  • 2:09 - 2:13
    When you're ready to save,
    there's various file formats
  • 2:13 - 2:16
that you can save it in.
  • 2:16 - 2:19
    So choose the one that
    will work best for you.
  • 2:19 - 2:22
    The Powerpoint show is
    quite a recommended one
  • 2:22 - 2:24
    that works quite
    well because it's
  • 2:24 - 2:28
    very useful and user friendly
    for the person watching it.
  • 2:28 - 2:32
But if you want to upload
    something on YouTube,
  • 2:32 - 2:36
a video file may work better.
  • 2:36 - 2:40
    I hope this helped, and
    enjoy making your Powerpoint
  • 2:40 - 2:44
    presentations accessible
    to the world out there.
